Crashed Ferrari

Having a Ferrari is great.

but the crashes......ohh....

They are fast, sleek, and get all the looks. They also have expensive upkeep. No, we don't have a real ferrari, we have a greyhound named Kix. Kix decided to break her toe last night at 10:30 p.m. We taped it up with medical bandages to stabilize it. Her toe was obviously broken - it was flopping around. Here is a picture of it from this morning. You can see that it is sticking up unlike the others. It was swollen about 50% this morning. Fortunately, our vet office, Dr. Bill's Pet Infirmary, was able to fit us in this morning.

She waited patiently for her turn.

When she heard other dogs outside the room she kept perking up her ears, as if to say "Can I go play yet?"

Now she is tired and pooped. She had an x-ray that showed she fractured the toe and that it was dislocated. (This was accomplished all by running outside to potty, ugh.) They put it in a splint and wrapped it with cast filling and bandaging and then we topped that with a tube sock. They gave us Rimadyl for her take once a day. $282 dollars later we were able to go home. We will have to get a Elizabethan collar for her later today - hopefully they come in pink! She has to go back in 8 weeks. By the way, she did not like the angle of this picture, she thought it made her look fat.

You shouldn't let her go out carousing with her friends and this wouldn't happen! ;-) Poor you guys. Poor Kix. At any rate, good to see you last night. We'll have to do it again soon.

You haven't had the full greyhound experience till someone breaks a toe. Welcome to the club. Hope Kix feels better soon.

OY!
warn me if you're going to show a busted toe. i don't know why toes, fingers (esp nails) scare me so when they're busted. roger staubach had a busted pinkie and i could never look at it.

silly kix, trips are for kids.

good luck with the toe. when seka had her toe removed the best thing we used was infant socks from walmart (they come in packs of 6) and vet wrapped it on there to keep her from licking it. we put some baby powder or vet powder in the sock to keep moisture from building up and she didn't like to lick it. the e-collar they gave us was so big she flipped out when she wore it. good luck over the long haul. sign her cast for us!
